Father's Day Sponsored Cycle Ride

Created by Andrea Joyce 7th May 2011 This event has closed

Story

In memory of Dave Joyce we; his wife Barbara, daughters Amanda and Andrea and his good friend Barry Molineaux, will be cycling the Millennium Cycle Route in Milton Keynes in order to raise money for the RNLi. The RNLi is a charity that Dave admired and so we would like to continue to raise money for them in his memory. In 2009 we set up the Forever by the Sea tribute fund in his memory and this year we have decided to organise an event to raise even more money for this very worthy cause. The cycle ride is 16 miles and we will be taking on our challenge on Sunday 19h June. That date is Father's Day and also would have been Dave's 59th birthday so it is a fitting date to hold a fundraising event in his memory. Please give what you can to remember Dave and to support this extremely worthwhile charity. Thank you.

We smashed that target!

6th August 2011
The fabulous amount of £200 raised by Barry Molineaux has now been added to the fund, as well as the £220 raised by Andrea. As you can see this has resulted in the target being completely smashed! We are so thrilled!! The other really exciting news is that we are still collecting sponsorship! More monies will be added to the fund shortly. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This has been such a massive success that we will definitely be doing something else to raise funds for the RNLi next year.

We did it!!

19th June 2011
So we made it! And with minimal drama too. We only had one rider hit the deck, one errant mudguard nearly took out another rider and only one rider now can't sit down without the aid of a rubber ring! (Big thanks goes out to Elaine West for the rubber ring - you're a life saver!) The ride was very picturesque and took in many of the sights of Milton Keynes, including the concrete cows! We had nine riders in the end, we did have 10 at one point but 2 year old Holly got a bit bored on the back. Bless her. We managed the 16.25 mile course in 3 hours, with a stop for bananas and water at the halfway mark. The welcome home was fantastic - particularly the toilet roll finish line and the winners medals and chocolates! Our support team at home were fabulous in getting the BBQ ready - big thanks goes to Pat Commane, Doreen and Ian Molineaux and Maria and Daniel Hayward. Also big thanks to Barry Molineaux, John Commane, Jason Bird, Colin Burford, Peter Hayward and Benjamin Hayward (our fellow riders) for making today so fabulous. Dave would have been so proud of each and every one of us - and would definitely have had a giggle too! Lastly, thank you to everyone for the really generous sponsorship - we couldn't have done it without you. Final total to follow...! Love, Barbara, Amanda and Andrea xxx

Training Update!

7th June 2011
We are all so overwhelmed by the fabulous generosity of everyone who is sponsoring us - thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought you might like a little update on how the preparations are going. Barbara is going out on her bike regularly and is building up her distance and times. She still thinks it is a race though so is getting regularly puffed out! Amanda regularly cycles to work so is an old pro really! Me, Andrea, well the tyres on my bike have split so I have done zero training and am still unsure how I am going to get my bike fixed and in Milton Keynes for the big event! Barry is training really hard and has his 'outfit' all ready to go - all in one lycra I hear!! Dad would LOVE that and would be having a really good laugh about that one. We are also being joined on the course by some good friends to keep us company along the way. Luckily at least one of them knows how to deal with a puncture so I will be referring to them as our entourage! Thank you again for all of the wonderful support, we are so lucky to have such generous and kind people in our lives. Dave would be chuffed to bits.
